EV Software Update Checklist

1. Is the vehicle's current software version checked at every EV service visit, and compared against the latest OEM-released version for that model?

2. Is customer consent obtained before any software update is applied to the vehicle, with the update's purpose, scope, and any impact on vehicle behaviour explained in advance?

3. Are over-the-air (OTA) update eligibility and status checked for every EV using the OEM's connected vehicle portal, with outstanding OTA updates documented?

4. Where workshop-applied software updates are required, is the OEM's documented update procedure followed — including vehicle preparation steps, battery state of charge requirements, and update sequence?

5. Is the vehicle connected to a stable power supply during software updates that require it, to prevent the update failing due to battery depletion during the process?

6. Is a pre-update diagnostic scan performed to confirm no existing fault codes would interfere with the update, with any faults resolved before the update proceeds?

7. Is the software update logged on the job card with the previous version, the new version installed, the update method (OTA or workshop), and the date of update?

8. Is a post-update functional check completed after every software update, confirming the vehicle's key systems (charging, driving, ADAS, infotainment) operate correctly with the new software?

9. Is the customer informed of the software update performed, the benefits of the new version, and any change in vehicle behaviour or feature availability?

10. Is a rollback procedure documented for each software update type, covering the steps to revert to the previous version if the update causes a system fault?
