1. Is a written Hazard Communication Program in place under OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200 / 1926.59), available to all employees on request?
2. Are Safety Data Sheets (SDS) available for every hazardous chemical used in the workshop, accessible to employees in the work area where the chemical is used — not filed only in an office?
3. Is the SDS format compliant with the GHS 16-section format (as adopted by OSHA's revised HazCom standard), with all 16 sections completed for each product?
4. Are all containers of hazardous chemicals labelled with the GHS-required elements — product identifier, signal word, hazard pictogram(s), hazard statement, and precautionary statement?
5. Are secondary containers (smaller containers decanted from original containers for point-of-use) labelled with the product identifier and relevant hazard information?
6. Are paint products, solvents, and thinners identified as flammable or combustible, stored in approved flammable liquid storage cabinets, and used in areas with adequate ventilation?
7. Are isocyanate-containing products (two-part polyurethane paints, adhesives) identified, with workers trained on the specific health risks, required PPE (supplied-air or appropriate respirator), and exposure controls?
8. Are solvent and paint waste containers labelled as 'Flammable Waste' or with the specific waste material identity, with lids kept closed and containers stored in compliant areas?
9. Are employees trained on the Hazard Communication Standard at initial assignment and when new hazards are introduced, with training records maintained?
10. Does employee training cover: how to read an SDS, how to interpret GHS labels, what PPE to use for each chemical, and what to do in case of accidental exposure or spill?
